As a daydreaming child, I often wondered what it would be like to step into a painting. The smells, sounds, sights, all the senses involved in the experience. Fast forward to 1998, after some years working in the corporate luxury brand industry I opened Waterlilies in historic Piedmont Avenue, Oakland. I wanted a space that stirred the senses, reflecting my love for nature, art, and a touch of spirituality. Through the years the concept of what is artful has changed, and the store along with it, but what hasn't changed is its core theme of nature and spirituality. I source small scale suppliers with their own interesting story to tell, seeking out brands that are respectful of the environment and practice fair labor trade, and always keeping in mind the humanity behind each product sold. These have always been our values and we hope it is apparent when our customers step inside our little space. Namaste.
